I can't remember a time when creating from fabrics and thread wasn't part of my life. One of my earliest memories of sewing is pushing the treadle on my grandmother's sewing machine. Another is the trouble I got into when I cut into a piece of fabric she had laid out to make a dress. I still have a small quilt that she and I made together. A very wonderful 4-H leader helped me develop my sewing skills.

I started my career in sewing with a job as sewing instructor with the Singer Company at their company store in downtown Salina. In 1976, I moved to Wichita as the manager of the Singer Store in Twin Lakes Shopping Center. When Singer closed their company-owned stores, I took a position as the manager of the JoAnns Fabric store in Towne West. When that store closed, I spent a copule of years exploring other retail options. However, after spending more than twenty years in sewing-related business, I missed it immensely. When the chance came along in 1996 to purchase Prairie Quilts, I thought, "What an opportunity!"

At the time I purchased the shop, I moved it to its present location in Parklane Shopping Center. Quilting is a growing hobby. We carry a complete line of quilting supplies, including notions, pattern books and fabrics. We offer a schedule of classes designed to help our customers improve their skills, whether they are making their very first quilt or are sharpening their skill learning more complex techniques. We specialize in individual customer service, helping quilters choose the right colors and fabrics for their projects.
